Business owner way ahead of curve in opposing FPL's ‘smart meter' locally

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FL - “Stephanie Austin, a local business owner, is vehemently opposed to smart meters.

I can't imagine too many people in Indian River County have a "Refuse Smart Meters" bumper sticker on their car, but she does. So, in these parts, she's way ahead of the curve in terms of opposition.

"I don't like how it's forced upon us," she said. "There are just too many questions."

Her main questions have to do with health, privacy, safety and even freedom.

"Our country is changing at breakneck speed," she said. "All while we're sleeping."

FPL is able to install tracking devices for the home, like the smart meter, she says, because we aren't paying attention.

"The freedom issue is paramount," she said. "We deserve to live in our house freely. It's about control — control of the people."”
